How to Play Rota: Rules and Gameplay
Rota, also known as Roman Tic Tac Toe, is a captivating two-player game that combines the simplicity of Tic Tac Toe with deeper strategic elements. Here’s how you can get started:
Objective:
The aim of Rota is to align three of your pieces in a straight line across the diameter of the circular board.
Setup
- Each player starts with three bronze and three silver pieces.
- All pieces begin off the board.
- Decide who goes first, such as by flipping a coin.
Bonus Tip: The game rules are attached, allowing everyone to see how it’s played. The leather can be folded to conceal the rules when desired.
Gameplay
Players take turns placing one of their three pieces onto any of the nine cells. Continue until all six pieces are on the board.
Up to this point, the game resembles traditional Tic Tac Toe. Here is where it get's different.
Once all pieces are placed, players alternate moving their pieces. Move a piece to an adjacent unoccupied cell either horizontally or vertically. Diagonal moves are allowed. Pieces cannot jump over or knock opponent pieces off the board.
Winning the Game
The first player to form a straight line of three pieces across the diameter of the circle wins.
Unlike traditional Tic Tac Toe, Rota cannot end in a tie, ensuring a decisive outcome every game.
